Ronaldo wins Castrol EDGE Performance of the Month
Cristiano Ronaldo’s match-winning display for Real Madrid in the 3-0 win at Xerez in La Liga is the Castrol EDGE Performance of the Month for February 2010.
Castrol Performance Analysts have studied every minute of every match in the top five European leagues and the Champions League and Cristiano Ronaldo’s efforts have emerged as the best by any player over the last month, scoring 2,163 Castrol Rankings points

The attacking midfielder scored twice in the victory that helped maintain his side’s title challenge, the sixth time he has struck a brace since he joined the Spanish club from Manchester United last summer.
The Portuguese international fired in an astonishing 11 shots during the game, five of them on target, and only the woodwork prevented him from recording his first Real Madrid hat-trick.

He also demonstrated how effective he can be at creating opportunities for others by setting up shooting opportunities for team-mates on four occasions.

Ronaldo was the dominant force in the match, enjoying 66 touches in Xerez’s half, more than any other player, in a game in which Manuel Pellegrini’s side enjoyed 63% of possession.

The performance helped maintain Ronaldo’s standing at 2nd place in the Castrol Rankings.

Castrol Ambassador and 1998 FIFA World Cup™ winner Marcel Desailly said: “It’s hard to pick out an area of weakness in Ronaldo’s game and the analysis of his performance against Xerez demonstrates his all-round attacking threat.

CRISTIANO RONALDO

“His scoring record has been outstanding over the last three seasons with Manchester United and Real Madrid, and that becomes easier to understand when you see the number of attempts he had on goal in this game.

“He always demands the ball and has the ability to create a shooting opportunity in areas where other players would never even think of going for goal. He has unbelievable talent and limitless confidence; and the two factors combine to make him the outstanding player he is.”

Udinese striker Antonio Di Natale produced the second best performance of the month, earning 1,845 Castrol Rankings points for his display against Napoli that was capped by a hat-trick. In total, he struck seven attempts on goal, five of which were on target, with all of his shots coming from inside the box.

It was Di Natale’s second Serie A treble of the season and moved the forward up the Castrol Rankings from 297th to 71st.

Wayne Rooney followed up his Castrol EDGE performance of the month in January with February’s third best showing when he scored twice against AC Milan in the Champions League.

The Manchester United striker found the target with three of his nine attempts on goal. Both goals came from headers and Rooney matched his prowess in front of goal in other areas of the pitch, recording an 80% passing accuracy rate.
