Hernandez makes giant strides in the Rankings
The Mexican striker made the biggest move in the April Castrol EDGE Rankings and can now look forward to a Wembley showdown with the top performer and Barcelona star man, Lionel Messi.
1. Javier Hernandez (92nd) has scored 12 Premier League goals from only 22 shots on target and is the biggest mover in the April Castrol EGDE Rankings, rising 865 places
2. Lionel Messi (1st) has scored 38 goals and set up another 19 in his 35 league appearances over the last 12 months, both European records during that period
3. Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema (2nd) has scored at a rate of one Champions League goal every 62 minutes this season (six goals in 373 minutes), the best ratio in the major European competition in 2010/2011
4. Robin van Persie (5th) has the best scoring ratio of any player in the top five leagues in 2011, having netted 15 goals in 14 games
5. Mario Gomez (4th) is the top performing Bundesliga player in the Castrol EGDE Rankings. No player has scored more goals in the German top-flight over the last 12 months (24 in 31 games)
6. Atlético de Madrid’s Sergio Agüero (11th) has scored in seven consecutive appearances – a record across Europe’s top five leagues this season
7. The top performing defenders in the Bundesliga are Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels (7th) and Neven Subotic (28th). Unsurprising given Dortmund have conceded just 19 goals in 32 matches and could beat the all-time German record of 21 goals conceded by Bayern Munich (2007/08)
8. Gervinho (25th) is Ligue 1’s top performing player. He has enjoyed his most prolific campaign to date (14 goals) and delivered more assists than any other forward over the last 12 months (9)
