Lionel Messi (1st) showed his strength by equalling Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record for most goals in a Champions League campaign (12). Over the past 12 months Messi has also made more touches in the opposition half (2665) and completed more dribbles (186) than any other player in the top five European leagues.
2. There are more Spanish players in the top 100 of the Castrol EDGE Rankings (17) than any other nation. Second is Argentina (12) and third is France (9).

Robin van Persie remains the top performing Premier League player in the Castrol EDGE Rankings, retaining fifth place for the second successive month. The Arsenal forward scored in each of his final nine league appearances away from home; a Premier League record.

Frank Lampard remains the top ranked English player despite falling from ninth to 13th, leaving the Castrol EDGE Rankings top 10 without an Englishman.
5. No player in the top 20 moved more places than Borussia Dortmund midfielder
Nuri Sahin; he rose from 36th to 20th. Sahin, who will be playing for Real Madrid next season, created 104 goalscoring chances in the Bundesliga in 2010/11; nobody managed more.

Mesut Ozil (47th) is the highest ranked German player outside the Bundesliga. The Real Madrid midfielder created a chance every 22 minutes, the best ratio in the top five European leagues this season.

Gervinho (28th) finished the season as the highest ranked Ligue 1 player. The French striker netted 15 goals and made 10 assists (three more than any other forward) as Lille won their first French title since 1954.
