Suarez is on the up

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has gained over 1,000 places already this season and is now sitting just outside the top 20.

1. Luis Suarez (27th) has fired in more shots than any other player in the Premier League in 2011-12 (44) and only two players have attempted more dribbles than the forward. He has also won three penalties – more than any other player.

2. Bayern’s Mario Gomez (2nd) has scored 36 goals in 33 games over the last 12 months, finding the net with 36% of his shots. This season at home, he has opened the scoring inside 10 minutes in three matches.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo (5th) has slipped down the Rankings due to his missed chances in front of goal. He has converted just 21% of shots over the last 12 months, that’s less than Messi (26%), Gomez (36%), Benzema (25%) and van Persie (24%). His shooting accuracy is also lower than all four players above him.

4. Florent Malouda (16th) continues to rise up the Castrol EDGE Rankings despite not regularly featuring in Chelsea’s starting line-up this season; in the past 12 months, he has created more chances than any other Premier League player (98).

5. In nine league games without Andres Iniesta (13th) in the past year, Barcelona have won just five (56%), picking up 2 points per game on average. Performances in the 30 fixtures with him saw them record an 83% win percentage, averaging 2.7 points.

6. Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud (144th) has climbed 240 places since August. He’s the joint-top scorer in Ligue 1 this season (eight goals) and only three players have had more shots on target in the top five European leagues in the same period: Messi (1st), Gomez (2nd) and Ronaldo (5th).
