WHAT ARE THE CASTROL EDGE RANKINGS?
Rooney, Ronaldo, Kaka, Messi... Just who is the current best player in the world?
Castrol EDGE Rankings give you the definitive answer based on the actual performances of every football player across Europe's top five leagues over a rolling 12-month period.
Using the latest technology Castrol's team of analysts capture data on every Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Champions League match.
Every touch of the ball is tracked and players are awarded a Castrol Index score based on whether they have had a positive or negative impact on their team's ability to score or concede a goal.
Depending on which zones the ball moves through, players also receive points for each successful pass they complete and are penalised for misplaced or intercepted passes.
Players are given a Castrol Index match score out of 10 that is converted into a Castrol EDGE Rankings points total and weighted depending on the importance of that tournament.
Each month the player with the highest points total per 90 minutes over the last 12 months will top the Castrol EDGE Rankings and will officially be the best performing player.
